Rafa Fernandez
Bio
Born in San José, October 24, 1935, known as Rafa Fernández, he was a Costa Rican painter. He made multiple individual and group exhibitions. Her art is distinguished mainly by the theme related to femininity and its mysteries. He obtained the Aquileo J. Echeverría National Prize for Plastic Arts on three occasions (1968, 1972 and 1975), in the mid-80s, he received the Santiago de España Prize in 1952. He also won the Magón Prize in 2002 .. He died on 9 September 2018.
Statement
During the 1980s, it is iconographic repertoire increased: female figures appeared, which acquired monumental dimensions and became more solid and volumetric, and the folds took on a greater presence, which reveals a certain sculptural condition. He achieved a coexistence of figurative forms with abstract patterns and a metaphysical atmosphere began to appear in his paintings, which achieved something of the balance and rest that characterize early Renaissance painting.
