In Latin America he has exhibited in Colombia, Argentina, Puerto Rico and represented Chile at the XVII Biennial of Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1983. In the United States he has exhibited in New York and Washington DC and an exhibition of his work is also held annually in New Orleans and San Francisco alternately. He has been invited to exhibitions in countries such as Croatia, Romania, Poland, India, Italy, China and Japan where he exhibited at the Hara Museum in Tokyo in 1992.
In 2011, the National Museum of Fine Arts of Chile organized a retrospective exhibition of his work that was recognized with the Chilean Academy of Fine Arts Award. The same year he was awarded the National Congress Bicentennial Medal. In 2014 he received the Artistic Career Award from the National Council of Culture and the Arts. In 2015, the Santiago Art Critics' Circle awarded him the Award for Best Exhibition of the Year for his exhibition El Silencio de la Memoria Susurra en el Viento.
