Cildo Meireles
Bio
Study arts at the Cultural Foundation of the Federal District with Félix Alexandre Barrenechea. Have works in various world museums and collections, participed in some Venice, São Paulo and other Biennales. Create in 1969, with Guilherme Vaz and Frederico Morais, the Experimental Unit. Win the Spanish Velázquez Prize for the Plastic Arts.
Statement
Meireles’ work has been the subject of several large-scale exhibitions at renowned institutions, like Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, in Spain. The following year, it also traveled to the Fundação de Serralves, in Portugal, and the HangarBicocca, in Italy. In 2008, Meireles had a full-scale retrospective at the Tate Modern, in England. Through 2010, the exhibition traveled to the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona, in Spain, and to the Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo, in Mexico.

The disc and cover are transparent, referring to the sound that not only disappears, but announces that it is disappearing. With that, Cildo Meireles questions what is tangible and intangible, thus deconstructing the hierarchy attributed to pre-established meanings.
