Waltercio Caldas
Bio
Waltercio Caldas was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1946. Today, he still lives and works in Rio de Janeiro. Caldas studied at the MAM, Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro, under the guidance of Ivan Serpa. His first major solo exhibition was in the same musuem, in 1973. Waltercio is one of the most internationally recognized Brazilian artists, having shown his work in various countries, including Belgium, Holland, Germany and Switzerland.
Statement
Transparency is a highlight in this work. It seems the gaze does not find opacity; it can fly away, as if there was no horizon. It projects the viewer into an adventure, full of new questions, which can be revealing. Shelves, glasses, words and transparency are always present in this artist's work.
Additional information
The multiples is part of a project with the Castro Maya Museums designed by 5 artists who have permanent works at Museu do Açude. The proposal encompasses an evident institutional character that aims to promote the visibility of the permanent works, as well as of the programming of these museums.
