Carlos Cruz Diez
Bio
The Franco-Venezuelan artist, Carlos Cruz-Diez (Caracas, 1923 - Paris, 2019) lived and worked in Paris since 1960. Considered one of the most relevant protagonists of optical and kinetic art, an artistic trend that claims "the awareness of the instability of the real. ”His research reveals him as one of the color thinkers of the 20th century.
Statement
Cruz-Diez has conceived his proposition by what he qualifies as spatial structures, “Chromostructure” or media for chromatic events. His work originates what we know as “Physichromie”, “Transchromie”, “Induction Chromatique” and “Couleur Additive”. These are the focuses of all his research and works, in which he shows that when color interacts with the observer, it is transformed into an autonomous event capable of invading space without the aid of form, without narrative or symbols.
