Stella Mariz is a Brazilian. Lived in Europe and United States. Lives and works in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Has Postgraduation in Art History and Art and Philosophy (Catholic University, Rio de Janeiro), artistic residency, New York (Art Students League), courses, art critics and artistic practices in the School of Visual Arts, Rio de Janeiro. Works with various kinds of materials. Made individual and group exhibitions in several cities in Brazil and in Portugal.
Statement
High relief photo-paintings are dystopian places, with ruins and contemporary urban landscapes. The photos acquire volume, with images expanded by sewing and stitched on canvas, becoming a 3D work. The acrylic paint exacerbates depths. It is a landscape with a sculptural effect. What I intend is to subvert what is a photo image. The viewer will have to enlarge the photo on the screen.
