Ignacio de Lucca
Bio
Born in the province of Misiones in 1960, he got his degree in architecture in 1986 at the University of Buenos Aires. In 1997 he was granted Fundación Antorchas’ scholarship for the Program for New Painters from the Northeast of Argentina. In 2004 he participated in the residency Paintings Edge Program in California with artists Terry Winters, Laura Owens and Elizabeth Murray. He lived in NYC between 2003 and 2006. In 2014 he made a mural for a Leandro N. Alem’s subway station in Buenos Aires.
Statement
The artist focuses his gaze on the natural phenomena and the shapes of the jungle life from a more abstract point of view. Approximations to the landscape from different aspects portray maps of connections between the inner self and the outer world, where layers of biological elements embrace the human thought through the power of representation. Like a Möbius strip, his paintings work as tight curves, diverse worlds, where a certain balance that comes from the chaos can be found.
