Vicky Neumann

Bio

Vicky Neumann Pont (1963), visual artist from Barranquilla. She studied at the School of Fine Arts in Barranquilla, the School of Fine Arts in Paris, the Academy of Fine Arts in Italy and Marymount College in Virginia (United States). Her professional career has positioned her as one of the most influential contemporary art artists in Colombia; her paintings alternate between figurative and abstract art, and to make them, she uses various materials such as oil, acrylic, enamels, aerosols and combines them with other unconventional materials such as fabrics, garbage, recyclable materials, among others. His pictorial work is endowed with dramatic strength and subtlety. His first works were made on paper, combining various techniques. In 1986 he moved away from paper and devoted himself to oil painting, where he alternates between figurative and abstract.

Statement

In Vicky Neumann's artistic observation of the work of Juan Carlos Henao, a renowned jurist whose philosophical and legal reflections revolved around the concepts of damage and reparation, and who was the artist's life partner for several decades, there is no room for theoretical searches, nor for nostalgic rhetoric or intentions to delve into the impact of a loss of such profound significance. Neumann continues dialogues that have sensitized in a particular way every glance in the family she built with Henao, and that, of course, contributed to nurture the work of the artist, always interested in the forms that an expression stripped of ideologies or discourses can take.
