Jennifer Basile

Bio

Jennifer Basile earned her Master of Fine Arts in Painting & Printmaking at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting & Printmaking at the University of Miami. She is in her 20th year as an art educator at Miami-Dade College. Basile’s love for the environment is rooted in her childhood when she discovered its avenues of escapism and meditation. Throughout her extensive travels and perfected talent, she has combined this passion with the long sought-after tradition of landscape renderings which she adopted and transformed through her printing practice. In time, she has developed a narrative around advocacy and awareness using her art as a platform to discuss the pertinent issues affecting the world we live in.

Statement

My message is simple: to capture the environment in all of its pure and natural beauty, before it is permanently changed. My focus has been the delicate eco systems of South Florida. From the rich mangroves at our coastline, to the river of grasses, hardwood hammocks, and Florida pines, I have grave concern for the future of our unique habitat. I enjoy the process of creating traditionally based artworks on a grand scale that envelop the viewer. My process for creating relief prints is to create an artist proof and an edition of one rather than multiples echoing the fragility of nature. Knowing that climate change is playing an immense role in our surroundings and is changing our landscape makes me obsessed with documenting its current existence as it will never be the same. My goal is to create works that allow the viewer to escape into aesthetic beauty while inspiring them to preserve their precious surroundings.
