Tony Vazquez-Figueroa
Bio
Tony Vazquez-Figueroa explores the substance of crude oil and its many manifestations with the intent of using his practice to discuss its effects within a global perspective. His deeply personal research into how oil-rich countries create both unique and peculiar physical, socio-economic, and cultural environments is manifested within his multidimensional approach to materials and the visual language that ensues. Vazquez-Figueroa holds command of a practice that flows between literal and figurative interpretation, leaning on a reflective aspect that places the viewer within both the work itself, and the narrative he presents. His work resides in the permanent collections of the Black Gold Museum (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia), Lowe Art Museum (Miami, FL), Pérez Art Museum Miami (Miami, FL), Museum of Latin American Art (Long Beach, CA), Klugler Kaplan Collection (Miami, FL), Villanueva Collection (Venezuela), Maldonado Collection (Miami, FL) and Foundation Rozas – Botran Collection (Cuidad de Guatemala, Guatemala).
