Juan Di Sandro

Bio

(Italy, 1898 - Argentina, 1988)
Juan Di Sandro holds a privileged place in the history of photojournalism in Argentina and is recognized as one of the most important pioneers of this genre.
Born in Italy, he emigrated to Argentina with his family in 1910. In 1914 he began working at the newspaper La Nación as assistant to Nazareno Palestrini, who became his teacher. Di Sandro collaborated with this journal until 1976.
A true witness of his time, he captured memorable scenes. He always used large format equipment, which, although heavy, allowed him to obtain better definition and technical quality. He also used to carry a portable ladder from which he photographed from a higher point of view that became a characteristic of his work. Night time urban photography was a constant subject in his production.
He frequently participated in Photo clubs as well as in contests and salons where he won numerous prizes. Since 1952 he was a member of La Carpeta de los Diez.
