Anatole Saderman

Bio

(Moscú, 1904 – Buenos Aires, 1993)
Saderman is known for his portraits, urban photography and the botanical series he made to illustrate the book "Maravillas de nuestras plantas indígenas" in 1934.
Born in Moscow, he studied Slavic philology, art history and drawing in Berlin. In 1926 he settled in Montevideo, where he met Nicolas Yarovoff, a Russian photographer who became his teacher. A few years later he moved to Asuncion where he opened his first studio and finally in 1932 he settled permanently in Buenos Aires.
In 1934 he held his first individual exhibition at Amigos del Arte. He became involved with local artists and intellectuals and affirmed his orientation towards portraiture. He had a strong role in the development of artistic photography in Argentina being a founding member of the Association of Professional Photographers, the Argentine Photo Club and the Buenos Aires Photo Club. In the 50's he also participated in the group of photographers La Carpeta de los Diez.
