Armando Guiller
Bio
Armando Guiller (Cuba, 1961) studied Mechanical Engineering before receiving his B.A. in Sculpture (San Alejandro Academy, Havana, 1987). After working for over a decade as an engineer in the US and abroad, he became a full-time artist in 2000. He has exhibited at the Ringling Museum of Arts, FL; the Dactyl Foundation, and Lehman College Art Gallery in NY. He had a major solo show at William Paterson University (NJ, 2016). His work is in private collections of the US, France, and Mexico.
Statement
My sculptures follow natural principles and aesthetics. I am fascinated with the Helix as a key building block in nature. Its equation best describes the processes of human development because of its incredible resemblance to men’s path in search for meaning and growth. My sculpting process consists of stacking sections or layers of a chosen material and shape, in order to create something. This process relates to Life, its complexity, and constant change.
