Sandro Pereira

Bio

Sandro Pereira (Tucumán, 1974) is an Argentine visual artist who lives and works in the city of San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina.
Over the years he has worked with different types of genres (engraving, sculpture, object, drawing, painting, performance, photography) and materials (plaster, wire, polyester resin, clay, plasticine, objet trouvé, paper). He has also worked on different types of discourses, although with a clear self-referentiality and primarily using the self-portrait genre.

Statement

My images are often copies of my own body in different circumstances that try to challenge models, fashions, canons and paradigms of society. In much of my work I use parody of myself, my body, using the stereotypes of childhood, of pop art and of Argentine popular culture. I place the portrait, as a genre, in the place of criticism and self-criticism, placing my own image in the place of heroism or baseness, taking myself as an object, as a specimen and subjecting myself to all kinds of adjectives that modify the perception of the artist and his reality, his time and his place.
