Bernardo Montoya

Bio

Colombian artist born in Bogotá in 1979, whose work focuses on the study of matter and its transmutations. His artistic approach encompasses diverse techniques and media, and seeks to establish connections between art, science and other disciplines.
Montoya studied Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid and undergrad at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, the same institution where he obtained a specialization in History and Theory of Art and a Master's Degree in Art History.
In 2013, Bernardo founded Salón Comunal, a space dedicated to contemporary art in Bogotá. Since then, he has run this space, establishing it as a focal point for the city's artistic community. His obsession with the professionalization of the field of plastic arts in Colombia led him to serve for two years as director of the Association of Colombian Art Galleries AGAC.
Montoya has a high commitment to the promotion and development of contemporary art in Bogotá, where he resides and works.

Statement

Throughout his career, Bernardo has employed a wide variety of techniques and media in his artistic work, including the use of painterly fluids, clay, and metals. His artworks are notable for their ability to establish relationships between natural objects and objects created by humans.
Montoya is characterized by his interdisciplinary approach and his constant search for the connection between art and science. This fusion gives rise to artistic works that challenge traditional conventions of techniques and formats.
