Mario Morales

Bio

Mario Morales Astudillo (Santiago - Chile, 1990), Morales' artistic theme lies in the concept of geometric abstraction expressed in works that argue encrypted concepts.
For this he replicates the mathematical behavior and distinguished angles, manifesting and insinuating different symbols and compositions that allude to a material meaning through a rite based on color and space.
Since 2015, he has interacted in a vast spectrum of ideas, inclined to propose movement in his compositions, suggesting complex optical and kinetic constructions, usually interrupted by an abrupt jump towards concrete and paralyzed geometric impulses, all this through the systematic unfolding on the perception of his paintings on canvas, entangling the observer in the dilemma of materiality.

Statement

Mario Morales uses geometry, kinetic art and scientific knowledge as resources, in these foundations his visual discourse is articulated. He assumes abstract contents that, without reaching the absolutization of the reference vocabulary, manage an aesthetic experience linked to the fields of knowledge of mathematics and physics. With an obsessive and artisanal workmanship, the work updates its place in the fields of kinetic or optical art, but does so from the subjective distances/heights that the viewer can adopt. His acuity in observing and translating the world into vivid lines and a perfectionist crossing that tends to simulacrum and illusion, is, to say the least, enviable. "According to the critic Justo Pastor Mellado, this has meant, in particular, to be the bearer of a resemantization of geometric abstraction, towards a type of hybrid figuration that stages its own mechanisms of restriction.
