Alberto Biasi

Bio

Alberto Biasi (Padua, Italy, 1937), Biassi studied Industrial Design in Venice. In 1959 he began his career as a sculptor and painter. Experimenting with the refraction of light and the use of unusual materials, he was an important part of the Arte Programatta, an expression used in Italy to refer to local works of kinetic art. During the sixties he became one of the major exponents of kinetic art on the international scene.
Biassi is considered among the most outstanding of contemporary kinetic art, a current that creates optical effects to generate the illusion of movement from light and color. He has a very long artistic career that has seen him at the center of a series of experimentations in the field of kinetic art and is currently considered a true master of this artistic field.

Statement

Alberto Biasi is an Italian pioneer of kinetic art and Op Art. His vibrant geometric works are characterized by their mathematical precision and elaborate symmetry, offering the illusory sensation of movement. As a founding member of the avant-garde artist collective Gruppo N, Biasi was influenced by the Dadaist movement and was one of the first to explore the possibilities of optical illusions in painting and sculpture. His pieces address the passage of time and the collaborative nature of a work of art: "I am a gentle maker of musical instruments, the viewer is the musician and the work of art is co-created by the artist and the viewer."
