B. Lisbon, 1991. Degree in Drawing from the University of Lisbon, MBA in Drawing and Printing Techniques from the University of Oporto. Erasmus in Fine Art at the University of East London. Starts exhibiting individually in 2013. Presented by Monumental at Draw Art Fair London, Drawing Room Madrid ,and Lisbon, JustMad Madrid, and Lisbon. First Prize at the Vila Verde International Biennial of Emerging Art, 2018. Represented in several private and institutional collections, in Portugal and abroad.
Statement
As they are repeated, living on a sort of planned autonomy, the appearance of an alphabet of «signs» gains relevance in the work of João Gomes Gago. Through his drawing, engraving, painting or performance, a kind of inherent "energy" is evoked, from the tensions created between body and drawing. An affinity between birth and death resonates, where the effects caused by the whole process of conceiving the "stain" are inscribed in a prevailing register, which inhabits the paper.
