Mauricio Garrido

Bio

Born in 1974, Chile. He has exhibited in the Cal y Canto Metro Station in Santiago, Museum of Contemporary Art (Quinta Normal) and the Las Condes Cultural Center, between other from 1995 to 2019. Garrido has participated in fairs such as Beijing (2008), Mexico City (2014), Buenos Aires (2010, 2019), NY City (2013), Hong Kong (2015). His art residencies have been in China, Italy and Mexico between 2007 until 2009. His works are part of private and institutional collections.

Statement

Mauricio Garrido's work is recognized for his monumental and exuberant collages in which he develops a contemporary, complex and mysterious surrealist aesthetic. His work uses allegory as a narrative method, evoking new forms of representation and new meanings for art. His technique is completely manual, achieving a unique and unmistakable visual language. He collects original papers from books and magazines that he finds in different corners of the world.
