Angela Valella (La Habana, 1948)
Born in Havana, Cuba lives and works in Miami, Fl.
Currently, she is part of the curatorial team, artist initiative, Fall Semester, a platform for public discussion on contemporary society and culture based in Miami, FL and founded in the summer of 2013. She is a resident with the curatorial project Fall Semester, Miami, ICA Miami, Nov 2016. In the last years she has been the recipient of the CINTAS Fellowship Award 2013-2014 and The Wavemaker Grant, 2016, Miami, FL.
One of the founding faculty members of Design and Architecture School in South Florida, she has been a contributor in the research of the book Memoria, Cuban Art of the 20th Century and organized curatorial shows and conferences among others. She is curatorial advisor to the MOAD Museum of Art and Design in Miami.
Valella’s works in a variety of media including, painting, collage, installation and video. She investigates problems of perception, selective accumulation and non-linearity, informed by architecture, art-historical references, the per formative aspects of installation art, and its social dynamics.
