Bio

Juan Carlos Romero (1930-2017) Argentine plastic artist, professor at the Department of Visual Arts Prilidiano Pueyrredón and Ernesto de la Cárcova Postgraduate in Visual Arts at the National University Institute of Art (IUNA). He has integrated various groups of artistic creation
In November 2012 he received the Konex Platinum Award - Conceptual Art: Quinquennium 2007.

Statement

In 1980 Romero produced a set of graphic pieces in which the artist's face, photographed from the front, painted and accompanied by words that refer to different forms of simulation can be seen.These words resonate strongly in the context of a military dictatorship at its height, marked by secrecy, disappearances and exiles.
Throughout the 1980s, the artist's portrait reappeared in numerous engravings, almost always intervened with acrylic paint.
