José Gurvich

The Uruguayan artist José Gurvich (Lithuania, 1927-New York, 1974), is considered among the main Uruguayan artists of the 20th century and as one of the most outstanding representatives of the School of the South.
He participated in the Torres García Workshop from 1944 until its dissolution in 1964.
In 2005, the Gurvich Museum was inaugurated in Montevideo on the basis of the artist's family heritage, after the creation of the José Gurvich Foundation, through the unique efforts of his wife, Julia Añorga, and his son, Martín.
Starting in 1969, he traveled to Israel again, ending his journey in New York, where he died.
