Josef Albers

Bio

Josef Albers (25 March 1888 – 25 March 1976) was a German-born American artist and educator whose work, both in Europe and in the United States, formed the basis of some of the most influential and far-reaching art education programs of the twentieth century.

Statement

Through the exercise of comparing and distinguishing the limits of color, a new and important measure is acquired for the interpretation of the plastic action of color, that is, for the spatial organization of color. Since the softer limits reveal a proximity that implies connection, the limits more strict indicate distance, separation. J.A.
