Nicole Mazza

Bio

Nicole Mazza was born in Gainesville, Florida, in 1989. She graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2011 and lived and worked in New York City until 2014, when she moved to Argentina. There, she resided in Buenos Aires and, starting in 2019, in Rosario. She has participated in several group exhibitions across the United States, Latin America, and Europe. Between 2022 and 2023, she held three notable solo exhibitions: “Blandir el Quiebre” at CRUDO in Rosario, Argentina; “El deseo de no querer” in Buenos Aires, Argentina; and “El Canto del Cisne” at the Centro Cultural Borges in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 2023, she received a special mention at the 111th National Visual Arts Salon. That same year, she was part of the CRUDO + Bloc booth at Art Lima, which won the Next Award at Pinta Miami. During that fair, one of her works entered the Ella Fontanals-Cisneros Collection. In 2024, she participated in exhibitions in New York, Chicago, Madrid, and Buenos Aires.

Statement

Nicole Mazza works with textiles, embroidery, hand-sewing, and hand-dyeing. She incorporates religious references, soap opera stereotypes, and pop culture as reflections of human conditioning, juxtaposing the delicacy of embroidery, primarily associated with feminine tradition, with sexualized imagery. She is intrigued by the iconography of women seen through the lens of fantasies constructed in society over time. "She, the woman built, deconstructed and reconstructed, devoured and fragmented."
