JULIA ROMANO

Bio

Julia Romano (Argentina, 1978) studied Art at Córdoba National University. Since the beginning of her practice she has deployed a hybrid range of references, techniques and resources that include photography, video, drawing, installation and collage. In her work there is a constant tension between the analog and the digital, the artisanal and the technological, where searches indicate a reflection on the gaze and intersections between what is constructed and what is real. She reflects on the experiential aspect of nature and raises the possibility of creating one's own landscape through personal stories; she creates montages that update the classic notion of landscape.
She has received numerous awards nationally and internationally. She actively participates in individual and collective exhibitions, and her work is part of well known private and public collections, both national and international.
She currently lives with her family in Córdoba, Argentina.

Statement

My landscapes are like travel logs where the images are more than a record of the place, they are moments, anecdotes, people, sensations, feelings. I am interested in conveying to the viewer that there is not a single way of seeing the territory, the relationship is unique for each of us. It goes beyond geographical and natural elements, culture or knowledge. They are more like personal stories shaped by an enormous amount of influences. Then the landscape becomes a magical composition, taking the form of an oasis.
In my works, the classic representation of the landscape mutates to identify me a little more every day.
