Carlos Zorrilla Monte

Bio

Born on May 3, 1988, La Habana Cuba. He graduated from the San Alejandro Academy of Visual Arts, Havana, Cuba (2009) and from the Higher Institute of Art, ISA, Havana, Cuba (2023). He lives and works in Havana, Cuba. His works are part of private collections in the United States, Spain, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Cuba. Exhibitions (selection): He has participated in numerous exhibitions inside and outside Cuba.
Carlos Zorrilla is an artist who looks peculiarly at the painting scene. With the title Stolen
Horizon, his photo-based artworks strongly feel like a memorial site, a
reference point archived in the memory of those immigrants who have made the path
from south to north searching for a new life.

Statement

Reality transversally impacts us on a daily basis, leaving in our memory images that are blurry, worn out, imprecise, and contaminated by our daily experiences. From my art, I revisit those moments to build up from them a residual reality, recreated from my vision as an artist. I seek to highlight the cracks, scrutinize the different layers surrounding its processes, and generate new interpretations from the representation of this constructed reality.
