Statement

Isabel Alonso Vega was born in Madrid in 1968, where she currently resides and works. Her artistic pursuit revolves around the intention of giving shape to the intangible. Ephemeral solids fluctuate within transparent boxes, resembling insects in an entomologist's collection.
By painting on different layers of transparent material, the artist creates sculptures that resemble a specific moment and a transformation process in the material, giving physical form to an abstract phenomenon. Her works are not confined to a static shape; their form and dynamism constantly change depending on the light and the perspective from which they are observed. Like silent and ever-changing clouds, the sculptures appear to levitate in a space created exclusively by light.
The artist's work aims to subvert the relationship between form and content. By shaping objects without substance, she uses painting as if sculpting stone.
Isabel Alonso Vega is capable of emphasizing the continuity between tradition, both iconographic and chronological, and contemporary art. She applies archetypal figures and traditional techniques to contemporary languages, exploring the possibility of representing the most ephemeral reality in a universally understandable way.
